Upgrading To Windows 10

What is Happening to Windows 7?

Microsoft made a commitment to provide 10 years of product support for Windows 7 when it was released on October 22, 2009. When this 10-year period ends, Microsoft will discontinue Windows 7 support so that it can focus its investment on supporting newer technologies and great new experiences.

The specific end of support day for Windows 7 will be January 14, 2020. After that, technical assistance and software updates from Windows Update that help protect your PC will no longer be available for the product.

Whilst your computer will still operate with Windows 7 Microsoft strongly recommends that you move to Windows 10 sometime before mid January 2020 to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available.

Can my System be Upgraded?

With the exception of a few devices we have found that the majority of Computers and Laptops that come in to the workshop are capable of being upgraded to the latest version of Microsoft Windows 10.

Depending on the age and processing power of the device it may be necessary to perform some hardware upgrades before the machine can be upgraded to the latest version of Microsoft Windows 10.  In most cases we notice a big jump in performance once the system is running the upgraded Microsoft Windows.

What Happens to all my Photos, Documents and Data?

We always recommend a clean install approach to Windows 10. This means wiping the complete windows 7 system off and starting from scratch. Because of this our customers are always anxious to know what is going to happen to all their precious data that is currently loaded to the Windows 7 system which is understandable.

We have 2 options that we advise our customers. The first option is to bring the device in to us already backed up. What this means is you have gone through your entire computer system and made a backup copy of all your important files and data. This option leaves you completely responsible for backing up the data.

The second option is to leave it all to us. We will take a snapshot of all the current data on your Computer or Laptop and will make sure to load it all back onto the system once the upgrade is complete. We find that majority of our customers prefer this option as they can relax knowing that they aren’t going to potentially miss any files during the backup.

What is the Cost to Upgrade my System?

As mentioned above there are 2 options when upgrading your system to Windows 10. If you bring your device into us completely backed up, meaning all we will do is wipe your current Windows 7 system and load on Windows 10 the cost will be $120.00.

If you would prefer to leave the entire process to us as majority of our customers do then we will take care of the full process for you. This means we will take a backup of all your current Photos, Documents and other files for you and reload them onto the new Windows 10 system once installed. The cost for this option is $150.00.

What if my System cannot be Upgraded?

Occasionally we are presented with a device that just doesn’t meet the requirements needed for an upgrade. Whilst this isn’t very common it is something we do deal with on the odd occasion. In these situations we are more than happy to see if we can accommodate you with an affordable ex-lease computer system.

If that isn’t something you are interested in and want to purchase a new machine we can also take care of transferring all the existing data like Photos and Documents onto the new device.

If you are completely unsure about what to do in any of the above situation just give one of the team a call and we will be more than happy to give you some advice over the phone where possible.
